Delhi Capitals (DC) clashed against the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 44th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 2. DC got back to the winning track and handed GT an embarrassing 5-run loss on their home ground.

DC opted to bat first after winning the toss but they didn’t get a great start as they lost their opener Philip Salt on the very first delivery of the match and he registered a golden duck. But DC suffered a huge blow when skipper David Warner got run out when he had a little misunderstanding with Priyam Garg and the rest of the top-order batters didn’t have any answers to Mohammed Shami's moving balls.

That led to DC reeling at 23/5 within the powerplay. However, later, DC’s most valuable player, so far this season, Axar Patel and Aman Khan started the rebuilding work but they had to play cautiously. They stitched 50 off 48 balls and then the former fell to Mohit Sharma.

Aman Khan, however, kept going and scored his maiden IPL fifty, while Ripal Patel also played a handy cameo down the order as both helped the team to achieve a fighting total of 130 runs.

Brilliant bowling performance by GT

Chasing the target, GT also started horribly as they lost their 4 important wickets on the score of just 32 runs under 7 overs and the easy-looking run chase became very difficult for the defending champions. Skipper Hardkik Pandya led from the front and stitched a crucial 62-run stand with Abhinav Manohar for the 5th wicket.

But the latter fell in the 18th over and Pandya couldn't shift the gears despite hitting a half-century. Rahul Tewatia tried hard in the end by hitting 3 back-to-back sixes against Anrich Nortje but the veteran pacer Ishant Sharma bowled exceptionally well in the last over and defended 12 runs successfully.

Meanwhile, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be back in action against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after a high-intensity thriller against Royal Challengers Bangalore where they suffered an 18-run loss. Both teams are coming off a defeat and will look to get back to the winning track on Wednesday.
