On 22 April 2023, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) took on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the ongoing IPL. Fans were hoping for a great battle. However, Shubman Gill was in action for GT and he has been having decent form with the bat. Before this clash, in five matches, he scored 228 runs, including two fifties.

Gill has managed some starts this season but failed to score big on multiple occasions. Even his strike rate has been an issue. So, all eyes were on him when he came out to bat against LSG. But, Shubman Gill failed miserably as he managed a two-ball duck only. Krunal Pandya took his wicket.

Seeing such a failure, fans were not happy and slammed the star GT batter on social media. Shubman Gill has been a player to watch out for across all formats for Team India in recent months. In his short international career so far, Gill has scored centuries in all three formats. He has become a settled option for the Men in Blue in the opening slot. So, before the start of this IPL, all fans were hoping for a top-notch season from Gill with the bat. But, as of now, he has failed to live up to his expectations.

Recently, during an interaction in the ongoing tournament, the former Aussie batter Matthew Hayden claimed that Shubman Gill can take the Sachin-Virat legacy forward in the upcoming days. He said: “Oh yes, Shubman is already in the Sachin-Virat league. World cricket needs heroes and he has everything in his game that will help him achieve those heights. He will make one of those icon players for the next 10-15 years.” Further, Hayden praised Tilak Varma also. He added: “There’s Ruturaj Gaikwad too, but Tilak has been extraordinary. What makes him such a special player is his ability to maintain a high strike rate. More than aggregates, it’s the strike rate that matters and Tilak has the ability to make an impact coming anywhere in that batting order”.
