KL Rahul’s position in team India has raised questions in recent times based on his poor run of form. In this ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy so far, KL Rahul has scored just 38 runs in three innings. Despite all these, he is still in the squad for the third and fourth Test matches. Former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev also wanted to see him out of the playing XI since the start of the series.
Another former India cricketer, Venkatesh Prasad slammed the Indian Cricket Board for favoring KL Rahul over other deserving batters. He even shared some tweets including Rahul’s stats in the longest format of the game while comparing to other batters like Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill. Now, Gautam Gambhir came up and claimed that Rahul needs to be backed right now.

Gambhir is the mentor of the Lucknow franchise of the Indian T20 League and Rahul is the skipper of the team. While speaking to SportsTak, Gautam Gambhir said: “People who are talking about KL Rahul don’t know how tough international cricket is. I believe when a player is not performing he needs more backing compared when he is playing well. Name one player who has scored runs from beginning to end. Everyone has faced that phase and you should back the talent.”
He also shared the example of Rohit Sharma and his performance at the start of his career. “When Rohit Sharma started his career (he struggled) and now look at his performance. There is absolute change. In the middle of the series this should not be talked about. India are 2-0 up. Each player in the dressing room knows whether he is scoring or not. No media or ex-cricketer can tell players that their performance is not good. Each player evaluates their performance. He should be alone because we all know the quality player he is,” Gambhir concluded.
