Following the first two games, Team India, led by coach Gautam Gambhir, is now 0-1 adrift in the five-match T20I series in Australia. In July, he was named the head coach of the Indian squad. India won the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at home this year under his leadership.

Abhimanyu Easwaran, the opener for India, recognised the impact of head coach Gautam Gambhir on his batting. According to Easwaran, Gambhir's background enhanced his strategy. He gave coach Gautam Gambhir credit for improving his understanding of batting. He claimed that even brief discussions with Gambhir had improved his approach to the game and given him insightful teachings.

"It has been really advantageous for me because he has played at the highest level of cricket. He was a very successful cricketer, and he was an opening batter just like me. I have talked to him a lot about batting, and I have learned a lot. It has had a good impact. We practice in things that will be beneficial according to the surface. We talk about those things a lot," he told ANI.

As one of India's most effective opening batsmen from his 2003 international debut till his retirement in 2016, Gambhir combined with Virender Sehwag to wreak havoc on bowlers at the top of the order. Gambhir scored 10,324 runs at an average of 38.95 in 242 international matches, including 20 hundreds and 63 fifties in 283 innings. He is among 14 Indians to have 10,000 international runs.

Easwaran is still awaiting his Test debut after being selected in India's Test team for the England tour earlier this year, but was left out prior to the West Indies series. Notably, Easwaran received his first Test call-up for India during the Bangladesh tour in December 2022. Even though he has been with the team for more than two and a half years, he has not yet played any game for the nation.

With 107 first-class matches, 8,070 runs at an average of 48.32, 27 hundreds, and 33 fifties, Easwaran has been a Bengali cricket mainstay. He is still awaiting his Test debut, though.
