Shubman Gill is currently busy playing in the ongoing three-match ODI series against West Indies. He had a disappointing two-match Test series against the Windies as Gill scored just 45 runs in three innings. Gill even had a poor start to the ODI series by scoring just seven runs in the first match. On 29 July 2023, the Men in Blue were in action in the second ODI.
So, all eyes were on him when he came out to open the innings with Ishan Kishan. Both of them put up a 90-run partnership for the first wicket. But, unfortunately, he got out on 34 runs off 49 balls, including five fours. Still, he managed to bag a huge record to his name as Gill has now the most number of runs under his tally after 26 ODI innings, surpassing the Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam.
Shubman Gill is currently the fifth-ranked batter in ODIs
After 26 ODI innings, he has now scored 1352 runs, at an average of 61.45 and a strike rate of 104.88. Gill has four centuries and five fifties to his name, including a career-best of 208 runs. While Babar Azam is now in the second spot with 1322 runs and Jonathan Trott is in the third place with 1303 runs respectively after they played 26 ODI innings. Speaking of Babar’s ODI career so far, he has played 100 ODIs and in 98 innings, the Pakistan skipper has scored 5089 runs, including 18 centuries and 26 fifties.
He is currently the number one ranked batter in the 50-over format also. Meanwhile, Trott played 68 ODIs and in 65 innings, he scored 2819 runs, at an average of 51.25, including just four centuries and 22 fifties. In terms of rankings, Babar is at the top with 886 rating points while Gill is in the fifth spot with 738 rating points. Seeing such a massive achievement from the young Team India opener, fans shared their views on social media. However, Gill will look to do well in the third ODI on 1 August, in Tarouba.
