Indian Premier League (IPL) is known as one of the leading franchise cricket tournaments where players from around the globe represent their respective franchises event year in India. Since its inception in 2008, it has become an essential part of Indian cricket. Now, the craze of that league has seemed to reach the people of Uttar Pradesh heavily as Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) are reportedly looking to launch their own Uttar Pradesh Premier League (UPL) in August 2023.

According to the reports of Dainik Jagran, the new T20-based franchise cricket tournament is all set to begin by the end of August. The Indian Cricket Board have already given permission to the UPCA for the tournament. Six teams are most likely to take part as all the matches will be played at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. However, it can be a major boost for the UP players as only those players will be considered to play in the tournament.
The UPL will take place in a span of 20 to 22 days
Every team will be permitted to gather 18 players in total to their service. Recent sources have also confirmed that 20 companies have shown interest already to buy those six teams. Apart from players, coaches and umpires will be from UP only. The teams are reportedly to be finalised by the end of July while all the players are reportedly to be auctioned by 13 or 14 August. The tournament span will be around 20 to 22 days.
Companies like Star Sports and Jio are fighting hard for broadcasting rights but Jio are currently reportedly ahead due to the huge amount of money they are looking to spend. During this tournament, the stadium’s floodlight work will be completed also. So, it will be a great opportunity for UP players, especially the young players to showcase their talent. Solid performances can help them to earn good contracts in upcoming editions of IPL also. Hearing such reports, fans shared their mixed views on social media.
