The third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicked off on 1 March 2023 in Indore, India were looking to continue their dominance over Australia after winning both the matches in Nagpur and Delhi respectively. But, the Men in Blue had a terrible start on day one of this match. Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first.

But, Indian batters were all over the place as they got bundled out for just 109 runs in 33.2 overs. Virat Kohli was the highest run scorer with 22 runs off 52 balls, including two fours. For Australia, Matthew Kunhemann took five wickets for 16 runs in nine overs. While Nathan Lyon grabbed three wickets and Todd Murphy grabbed one wicket.

Then, in reply, Australian batters made a comfortable start as they finished day one with a lead of 47 runs after losing only four wickets. But, in the first session of day two, the visitors faced another terrible batting collapse as they got bundled out for 197 runs in 76.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja grabbed four wickets while both Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav took three wickets. For the Aussies, Usman Khawaja scored 60 runs off 147 balls, including four boundaries. Thus, they managed a lead of 88 runs. Then, in India’s second innings, skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out to open. 

But, Indian batters failed again as they got bundled out for just 163 runs in 60.3 overs. For the home side, Cheteshwar Pujara was the highest run-scorer with 59 runs off 142 balls, including five boundaries and one six. For the Aussies, Nathan Lyon was the star of the show, He took eight wickets for 64 runs in 23.3 overs. Along with him, Matthew Kunhemann and Mitchell Starc grabbed one wicket each. Thus, day two ended and Australia need to chase down the target of 76 runs to win this match.
