On 21 May 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL and finished the group stage with 20 points in 14 games. However, this win over RCB by GT ensured MI’s qualification for the playoffs. Shubman Gill won the game for GT as he smashed 104* runs off 52 balls.
After the match, the former Team India legend, Sachin Tendulkar came up with a cheeky tweet to praise Gill to help Mumbai Indians to get qualified for the playoffs. Seeing that tweet, fans went crazy and shared their views. However, there are several speculations that Gill and Sachin’s daughter, Sara might be in a relationship. Go Mumbai. #AalaRe #MumbaiMeriJaan #IPL2023.” With this win of GT, MI reached the playoffs with 16 points in 14 games and now, they will be in action against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the eliminator on 24 May 2023 at Chepauk, Chennai. Speaking of Gill’s knock, it was back-to-back centuries for him in this ongoing tournament. First, he smashed his maiden IPL ton against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and then, his second ton came against RCB.
After winning the Player of the Match award against RCB, Gill said: “It’s all about getting a start and converting it into a big one. Thankfully it’s working out for me in the business end. You have to keep applying yourself, that’s important. The new ball was holding on a bit. The ball was getting wet with the dew. I thought Vijay Shankar was trying to go too hard. Once he found the momentum, he hit it a long way. I know my game… for any player it’s important to know who you are. I think we have a great bowling attack for that [Chennai] wicket.”
