Rahul managed only one fifty-plus score in that three-match series. So, fans were wondering if he would get a chance in the squad for the Test and ODI series against the Aussies at home. KL Rahul managed to get a place and he played the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

KL Rahul has been struggling recently for team India across all three formats

In those matches, he scored only 38 runs in three innings. Then, team India went with youngster Shubman Gill over him as the opener for the next two matches. Before the series, many former Indian cricketers like Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev claimed that the Men in Blue should give Gill more chance ahead of KL Rahul to get a better balance within the team. During the series, the former team India pacer, Venkatesh Prasad also came up with an allegation of favourism over the Indian Cricket Board.
