The Blackcaps defeated the hosts in the first of the three-match T20I series by 21 runs to take a lead of 1-0 in the three-match series. Both teams played this match at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium in Ranchi.

The hosts’ skipper Hardik Pandya won the flip of the coin and decided to bowl first. The Kiwis managed to pile up a total of 176 runs for the loss of six wickets in the first 20 overs of the match. While chasing the target, Hardik Pandya’s men fell short by 22 runs and lost the match by 21 runs against the visitors.
