Team India are currently busy playing in Ireland in the ongoing three-match T20I series. But, their main test will happen in the upcoming Asia Cup. This time, the tournament is going to a 50-over format. Hence, that will be great preparation for Rohit Sharma and his men ahead of the ODI World Cup, starting in October in India.

The Men in Blue are yet to announce their squad for the Asia Cup and reports came out that it might get announced on 20 August. But, now, reports have come out that it might get announced on 21 August and Rohit Sharma will join the meeting in Delhi. He will join Ajit Agarakar in the squad selection meeting.

Sanju Samson might get dropped from the Asia Cup 2023 squad - Reports

Speaking of the squad, earlier reports have highlighted that Sanju Samson might get dropped from the squad. He was a part of the ODI and T20I squad during the recently concluded WI tour and currently, is a part of the T20I squad in Ireland. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are still in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bangalore as they are looking to get fit. However, as per recent reports, they have played some practice matches and Rahul is most likely to get a place in the squad while Iyer might want some more time.

While speaking to CricketNext, a source close to the developments said: “KL Rahul is fit and available for selection. He has been regularly batting and wicketkeeping and looks good fitness-wise. With regards to Shreyas Iyer, signs are extremely positive”. Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are already in Ireland as they also played the 1st T20I. Krishna made his T20I debut while Bumrah led the team as well. Both performed decently and they are also most likely to get a place in the upcoming Asia Cup squad. Asia Cup will begin on 30 August but India will begin their campaign against Pakistan on 2 September in Sri Lanka.
