AB de Villiers picks his World XI; Sachin Tendulkar & Rohit Sharma omitted

The former South African explosive batter AB de Villiers was asked to pick his World Best XI on the sidelines of the ongoing World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025), as he went on to pick two Indians in his XI.

Notably, AB is currently plying his trade for the South African Champions in the ongoing WCL 2025 season. On the sidelines of the campaign, the presenter, Shefali Bagga, has asked AB about picking his best world XI. 

Interestingly, he picked up five Australians and a Pakistani in his XI. AB de Villiers, who amassed 20,000-plus runs in international cricket, has picked two Indians in his XI while star cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma have been omitted.

The former Protea started off the XI with his colleague Graeme Smith opening the innings with the explosive Aussie opener Matthew Hayden. Later, Ricky Ponting, the former Aussie skipper, made it to the No.3 slot.

Additionally, his best friend Virat Kohli occupied the No.4 slot with former Australian captain Steve Smith making it to No.5. On the other hand, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson occupied the No.6 slot.

Moving forward, MS Dhoni, the only captain to win all ICC trophies, made it to his list, batting at No.7 in the list. Later, the pace battery comprises Mitchell Johnson and Mohammad Asif. Interestingly, AB didn’t opt for any all-rounder in his XI.

Furthermore, the legendary spin-bowling duo of Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne are slotted at No.10 and No.11 positions, respectively. Surprisingly, AB de Villiers didn’t pick a captain for the side.
