Not many cricket fans are aware that apart from being a phenomenal batsman, former South African captain AB de Villiers is a decent singer too. On June 1, Tuesday, the wicketkeeper-batsman took the internet by storm as he flaunted his signing talent.
In a video posted by De Villiers, he can be seen singing the famous song, “I won’t give up” by Jason Mraz, along with his wife Danielle de Villiers. AB sang the melody to celebrate his father’s 70th birthday. The former skipper posted the adorable video with an equally warm caption as he expressed gratitude to his father for always being there with him. AB also revealed the significance of the song, “I won’t give up”, saying that the song makes him believe that God is always there with him.
“On the 29th we celebrated my father’s 70th bday and I had the privilege to perform one of my all-time favorite songs with my beautiful wife. We all interpret songs in our own unique way, this song has a particularly special meaning to me and reminds me that God is always there, no matter what happens. While singing this song on the 29th and looking across the room to my Dad, it also reminded me how lucky I’ve been to have had him by my side as a role model for so many years,” AB wrote in the caption.

The video caused a lot of buzz on social media as many people dropped heartfelt comments. Meanwhile, one comment that stood out came from Australia’s spin all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell sarcastically claimed that there is improvement in AB’s singling from the last time.
“This is certainly an improvement on your last performance,” wrote Maxwell.
Notably, both AB and Glenn played alongside each other during the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
