‘Ab bolo Vadapav ke fans’ - Viral image showing Sanju Samson's gloves away from stumps during Rohit Sharma's controversial dismissal against RR in IPL 2023

On 30 April 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) took on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing IPL at Wannkhede Stadium. However, the home side managed to pull off a thrilling win with three balls and six wickets to spare. RR’s Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his maiden IPL ton and won the Player of the Match award despite it all going in vain at the end.

But, the controversial dismissal of Rohit Sharma made the headlines. Rohit scored only three runs off five balls and failed to give a proper start to his team while chasing 213 runs. Sandeep Sharma took his wicket but fans claimed that the ball did not bail. It was RR’s skipper and wicketkeeper, Sanju Samson who went to grab the ball and his gloves might have hit the bail. Thus, the bail fell down and Rohit was given out.

But, now some videos and images have gone viral from a different angle, and from that side, it seemed that Sanju’s gloves were very far from the stumps when he collected the ball. So, his gloves did not bail and it went off after only hitting the ball. Seeing that, fans shared their views and slammed Rohit Sharma fans on social media. Speaking of the match, RR batted first and scored 212 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, MI chased it down in 19.3 overs.

After the clash, the MI skipper, Rohit Sharma looked happy and during the post-match presentation, he said: “Was pleasing to see how we chased down the target. Last game too, we came close and we back ourselves to chase them down. So it was pleasing. Polly's shoes are big to fill, but Tim has got a lot of ability and power. At the back end that helps and is good to have. The changes in the side are difficult, but sometimes you have to play the conditions and make calls based on compositions, so the players need to be prepared for that.”
