On 3 August 2023, Team India locked horns with West Indies in the first game of the five-match T20I series. The Men in Blue handed debut caps to Tilak Varma and Mukhesh Kumar. However, it was Tilak’s international debut while it was Mukesh’s first match in the shortest format of the game after making his debut in both Tests and ODIs during this ongoing tour.
Speaking of the match, the Windies skipper, Rovman Powell won the toss and opted to bat first. For them, Brandon King and Kyle Mayers came out as openers and gave them a solid start. But, Mayers’ struggle came to an end as he got out on just one run off seven balls. King scored 28 runs as the home side were on 30 runs after 4.3 overs.

Then, for the chase, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill came out to open the innings. But, the visitors were in a spot of bother after losing both of them for just 28 runs in 4.5 overs.
Gill’s off form with the bat in this tour continued as he got out on just three runs while Ishan failed to replicate his ODI series form as he got out on just six runs. The number one-ranked T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav also got out after scoring a runner-ball 21. Debutant Tilak showed some glimpses of his talent as he scored 39 runs off 21 balls, including two fours and three sixes. After that, skipper Pandya and Sanju Samson were looking to steady the ship as India were on 98 runs for four wickets in 14 overs. But, both of them failed also as they needed 32 runs off 18 balls with four wickets in hand. Ultimately, the Windies’ bowlers prevailed as India scored 145 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs and the home side won the game by four runs.

So basically young guns can't play on slow and sluggish wickets. They can only play on good batting paradise 😤
