Former Indian batter and commentator Aakash Chopra reckons the middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan should’ve been included for the England tour, scheduled to start on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.
Notably, Sarfaraz smacked a 92-run knock against the England Lions in the first unofficial Test, while he was dropped for the second unofficial Test. Moreover, he scored a 101-run knock for India A with 15 fours and two sixes against India in the warm-up match.
"Sarfaraz Khan hasn't done anything wrong thus far. In fact, he scored 90-plus in the one match he played. He couldn't score a hundred, but he scored runs. After that, you didn't play him in the next match, and he is not part of the Test team," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
While Sarfaraz made his debut against England last year in February, he was later part of the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. However, he didn’t get a chance to make it to the XI in any of the five games. Subsequently, he was axed from the squad for the England tour. Chopra feels as Sarfaraz is scoring runs for India A in English conditions, he needs to be looked for in the India squad as well for the England tour.
"He hasn't failed in England, Australia, and South Africa thus far, but you haven't given him a chance. It is not a good story. I can understand if you don't have confidence in his technique or playing style, that he might not be able to score runs there, then just take a call. Then don't send him with India A also," he added.
India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
