While reports indicate that Virat Kohli has declined to extend a contract with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has said that this is a business decision and that the reported denial does not mean that the star Indian batsman is leaving the IPL or moving to another team.

According to RevSportz journalist Rohit Juglan, who was cited in a number of stories on Sunday, October 12, Kohli has decided not to extend his commercial contract with Bengaluru in advance of the 2026 Indian Premier League.

As a result, speculation regarding Virat Kohli's future in the IPL has increased. Aakash Chopra, however, has denied all of the allegations and reassured the supporters of Kohli that their favorite cricket player is not leaving.

He has reportedly refused a commercial contract, but what does that mean? He will definitely play for RCB. If he is playing, he is definitely going to turn out for the same franchise. He (Kohli) has just won the trophy. Why will he leave the franchise then? He isn’t going anywhere. What contract can be refused is in the realm of speculation. He might have a dual contract," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

A commercial contract is the side contract apart from the playing contract. He has reportedly refused to sign a commercial contract. There are also reports that RCB is going up for sale," Chopra added.

RCB's historic IPL 2025 victory—the team's first T20 league trophy—was made possible in large part by Kohli. With a remarkable 54.75 average and 144.71 strike rate, he amassed 657 runs in 15 games, including eight fifties and a high of 73*.

In the history of the Indian Premier League, Kohli has scored the most runs. He has amassed 8,661 runs at an average of 39.54 and a strike rate of 132.85 in 267 games with RCB, including eight hundreds and sixty-three fifties.
