The Indian Premier League (IPL) returned to action on a busy Sunday for its sixteenth season. Two games were scheduled for the day in the second doubleheader of the weekend. After a thrilling last-ball match, Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets in the first game. The second game of the day pitted the five-time champion Mumbai Indians against the runners-up from the previous season, Rajasthan Royals.

In the day's second game, the visitors decided to bat first after winning the toss. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Butler, their opening combination, helped them get off to a quick start by scoring 72 runs. Jaiswal prevented the Royals' innings from turning into a one-man show with his 124 off 62 balls, the highest individual score in the Indian Premier League this season. The Royals reached 212/7 in 20 overs, with just three other batters scoring more than ten runs.

Arshad Khan continued to be the Mumbai Indians' go-to bowler, with figures of 3/39 in three overs. Piyush Chawla controlled the run rate in his four overs, giving up 34 runs while claiming two wickets. Jofra Archer and Riley Meredith each brought one wicket home with them.

In response, Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians' skipper, was again easily removed from the game after only hitting three runs off five balls. For the Indians, Ishan Kishan (28 off 23) and Cameron Green (44 off 26) tried to control the innings. Then, Suryakumar Yadav added a fast 55 off 29. In the end, MI won the match by 6 wickets thanks to the last assault headed by Tilak Varma (29 off 21) and Tim David (45 off 14).

In the sixteenth season of the Indian Premier League at the Ekana Sports City Stadium, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will face off against the Lucknow Super Giants next. Unlike the RCB, who suffered a 21-run defeat to KKR when travelling to Kolkata, LSG comes into this match having thrashed Punjab Kings by a margin of 56 runs.
