Mumbai Indians (MI) are currently in the third position with 12 points in 11 games. But, during the ongoing tournament, they dealt a huge blow as Jofra Archer left the camp due to an injury. As a result, they acquired the services of Chris Jordan in place of Archer. In the IPL 2022 mega auction, MI bought the England pacer for INR 8 crores.

But, due to injury, he missed the entire tournament in 2022. Then, in the 2023 edition, fans were expecting a full season from him, especially after Jasprit Bumrah’s unavailability due to injury. But, he played only five matches and managed only two wickets. Now, he has flown to England "to focus on his rehabilitation".

Jofra Archer has already played for MI Cape Town in the first SA20 season

The England Cricket Board (ECB) issued a statement that reads: "Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery. However, pushing through the discomfort whilst recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging. Therefore, it has been agreed for him to return to the UK for a period of rest and rehabilitation to give him the best opportunity for a full recovery." MI also confirmed that ECB will now monitor his recovery and fitness. Now, a report has come out that MI are looking to offer him a full-time deal worth over INR 10 Crores. This deal will let Archer play international cricket if MI give NOC to him.

Regarding this, in an exclusive chat with InsideSport earlier, an MI official said: “It’s a long shot at this moment. But yes, it is an idea. But it is going to be a reality sooner or later. Even if the current international players don’t want a multi-franchise contract, someone who has retired could get financial and playing security. It is something that many teams will be exploring.” This Reliance-backed franchise also have teams in ILT20 (UAE), SA20 (South Africa), and Major League Cricket (USA). This deal can make Archer available around the year and he has already played for the MI Cape Town in the inaugural season of the SA20.
