The Super-12 stage of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 has come to a close and there's is no denying that it has been one of the best World Cups in the history of the tournament. From last-over thrillers to minnows pulling off upsets on numerous occasions, the fans have been treated with epics encounters during the tournament.
A lot of people have come forward to reveal some of the similarities between the ongoing edition of the World Cup and the 2011 World Cup. However, very few have noticed that there were similar occurrences taken place between World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy.
On that note, we have listed out five instances which happened both in the 2017 Champions Trophy and the 20-20 World Cup 2022:
5. Australia knocked out of the tournament due to rain:

Australia couldn't progress to the next stage of the tournament in both 2017 Champions Trophy and the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Rain played a big part in Australia's failure in both the tournaments. During the 2017 Champions Trophy, two out of three matches resulted in washouts due to rain, while in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, the important match against England also didn't happen due to rain.
4. Teams that beat India in the group-stage couldn't qualify for the semi-finals:

In both the tournaments, the team who beat India in the 2017 Champions Trophy and 20-20 World Cup failed to qualify for the next stage. In the ongoing tournament, South Africa beat India in the Super 12 stage but couldn't qualify into the semis. On the other hand, in the 2017 Champions Trophy, Sri Lanka beat India in the league stage but couldn't progress into the semis.
3. West Indies couldn't qualify for the Super 12s:

West Indies failed to qualify for the 2017 Champions Trophy as they couldn't finish in the top eight teams in the rankings. In the ongoing World Cup, West Indies had the chance to progress into the Super 12s but were knocked out of the competition from the first round itself.
2. India and Pakistan together in same groups:

In both the tournaments, the Group B and Group 2 had starc similarities. India, South Africa, and Pakistan were together in the same group B during the 2017 Champions Trophy. This time around as well, the three teams were grouped together in the Group 2 in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
1. Similar teams in Group A and Group 1:
As many as 8 teams played in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Three teams namely, England, New Zealand and Australia were grouped together in the Group A. Similarly, in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, all three teams were together in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage.
