Cricket is a fiercely competitive sport, and players enjoy considerable fame while they are competing. Many athletes have had successful careers that end abruptly after retirement, leaving fans to wonder what became of them. Let's look at the five cricket players who disappeared shortly after they retired.
Unmukt Chand
When Unmukt Chand captained the India Under-19 squad at the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Australia, he became well-known. He was instrumental in the final match against Australia, scoring an undefeated hundred (111*) to help India win and win the championship.
He was not given the chance to play at the senior level, nevertheless, in spite of his qualifications. Before moving to the USA to play Major League Cricket with the Los Angeles Knight Riders, he was a reliable run scorer in domestic first-class cricket and had impressive performances in the Ranji Trophy while playing for the Delhi cricket team.
Joginder Sharma
Even though Joginder Sharma is no longer well-known, his final over against Pakistan in 2007 is still remembered. By taking out Misbah-ul-Haq, he gave India their first-ever T20 World Cup trophy.
In 2004, the Haryana-born cricketer earned his India One Day International debut as an all-rounder. His erratic returns led to his expulsion from the team. Later in life, he returned, but after participating in a few games, he vanished. He was appointed in the Police Department and continued in the same post, retiring, vanishing entirely from the limelight.
Vinod Kambli
One of the players predicted to have a significant impact for India on the international scene in the 1990s was Vinod Kambli. He scored four hundreds in his first seven Test matches after making his debut in 1993.
Due to disciplinary concerns, Kambli was dismissed from the Test squad at the age of 24. During his three-year Test career, he amassed 1084 runs in 21 innings of 17 Tests, including four hundreds and three fifties. After 22 years of playing for Mumbai, Kambli announced his retirement from first-class cricket in 2011.
Speaking on a television program in 2011, Kambli became involved in a scandal. Since that controversy, he has avoided the spotlight entirely.
S. Sreesanth
Whether it was his aggressive bowling or his vivacious celebrations, S. Sreesanth became incredibly famous. He was a member of two winning teams: the Indian side that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
His achievements in pressure matches made him the next big thing in Indian bowling. But once he was accused of being involved in a match-fixing incident, his career took a turn for the worse. He also made an appearance on Bigg Boss 12, a reality show. Even after the matter was resolved, he was unable to resume his involvement in the sport.
Stuart Binny
Stuart Binny, an all-rounder from Karnataka, played in 14 ODIs and 6 Test matches for Team India before being dropped. At first, he bothered batters with his seam bowling and hit some quickfire knocks, but none of that lasted long. With six wickets at a cost of just four runs, he continues to hold the record for best bowling stats in ODIs for India.
He lost his spot on the team as a result of his continuously poor performance and was ultimately unable to recover. Since he announced his retirement in August 2021, he has largely been out of the spotlight.
