Former Indian skipper and senior batter Virat Kohli has now become the second batter to score the most centuries in international cricket. He is now behind the former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin had 100 international centuries to his name. Whereas, Kohli has smashed his 72nd international century today in the ongoing third and last ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh.
The 34-year-old Delhi batter scored 113 runs off 91 balls with 11 boundaries and two sixes to his name. As it was the 44th ODI century for Kohli, he has broken a couple of records with the bat in this match.
With said that, here we’ll have a look at the five records broken by Kohli during his knock of 113 runs off 91 balls against the hosts Bangladesh in the last fixture of the limited-overs series.
Highest ODI runs by an Indian against Bangladesh
With the amazing century knock in Chattogram, Kohli has become the highest run-scorer for the Indian team against Bangladesh. He has now 807 runs in 15 ODI innings to his name against Bangladesh. It was also the fourth ODI century of Kohli against Bangladesh.
Prior to Kohli, this record was secured against the name of current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. The 35-year-old has scored 738 runs in the 15 innings so far. He is not playing in this match after being ruled out due to an injury he sustained in his left thumb during the last match against the same opponents.
Highest runs by an Indian against Bangladesh across all formats of the game
The 2011 World Cup winner batter has also surpassed the former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar to become the highest run-scorer for India against Bangladesh across all formats of the game. Earlier, Sachin had 1316 runs with his bat against Bangladesh.
Whereas, Kohli has now scored 1392 runs in 25 innings against Bangladesh. He has registered an average of 73.26 in 25 innings.
Fastest to reach 44 centuries in One-Day internationals
Virat Kohli registered the 44th century in ODIs today. Now, he is the second to score the highest number of ODI centuries in the history of ODI cricket. The veteran of 72 international centuries is now only behind the former Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar who had 49 ODI centuries to his name.
Notably, Kohli scored his 44th ODI century only in the 256th inning of his career whereas Sachin took 418 innings to achieve the same feat.
250+ run partnership for India in ODIs with the highest run rate
India got an early blow today when they lost the senior southpaw Shikhar Dhawan only on the score of 15 runs in the fifth over. Since then, young opener Ishan Kishan took the charge with his senior partner Virat Kohli. The duo stitched the brilliant partnership of 290 runs in the next 31.4 overs for the second wicket of the men in blue.
The Kishan-Kohli kept making runs with an amazing run rate of 9.15 during their record-breaking partnership at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhary Stadium in Chattogram. Earlier, this record was on the name of former Sri Lankan batters, Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga as they went on to add 286 runs in 31.5 overs and could maintain a run rate of 8.98 in the last ODI of the series against England 16 years back in the year 2006.
Highest ODI partnership by an Indian pair on the opponent team’s home ground
The duo of Ishan Kishan and Virat Kohli has also become the first to stitch the highest ODI partnership for the men in blue in the opponent’s backyard. They have surpassed the record of a 252-run partnership.
The Sachin-Saurav pair went on to score 252 runs for the first wicket against Sri Lanka in Colombo 12 years back in the year 1998. Kishan and Kohli have broken that record with a 290-run stand for the second wicket against Bangladesh in the latter’s backyard in Chattogram today.
