Asia Cup 2022

Asia Cup 2022 is all set to start at the end of this week on the 27th of August. Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will play the first match of the tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Following this encounter, there is a much-anticipated clash of the tournament between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan on the next day.

Notably, many senior players of the different teams are part of the squads of their respective teams in the tournament.  Apart from that, there are also the players who are either in the bad form or struggling with a lean patch with the bat. So, this edition of the Asia Cup might be a do-or-die situation for these players.

So, here we’ll have a look at three players whose future will rely mostly on their outings during the Asia Cup 2022 to secure their place in the team.

Shakib Al Hasan – Bangladesh

The 35-year-old senior Bangladeshi all-rounder has been appointed as the skipper of the team for the Asia Cup 2022. But apart from that, he is enduring a poor run of form both with the bat and the ball for the last couple of matches. He could score only a half-century in the last five innings while playing for Bangladesh.

The Asia cup will be very crucial for him not only in terms of captaincy but also for his form with the bat and ball. Speaking of his bowling, Shakib has scalped only two wickets in the last five international innings for Bangladesh. So, the multi-team continental tournament will be a do-or-die phase for him to prove his vitality.

Virat Kohli – India

Former Indian skipper and senior batter Virat Kohli is going through a lean patch with the bat for the last couple of years in a continuation. He hasn’t scored any international century since the last one he smashed in a Test match against Bangladesh three years back in 2019.

Recently, he also failed during the rescheduled Test match followed by the white-ball leg against England. He couldn’t even score a single half-century on the tour. The 33-year-old is consistently on the receiving end of criticism both from the experts and the fans. So, this edition of the Asia Cup is going to be a turning point in my career.

Fakhar Zaman – Pakistan

Senior top order batter of Pakistan has played some vital knocks for his team in the last couple of years. But he is not in the expected form for the last couple of matches as there is only one century to his name in the last five matches for the men in green. Fakhar has figures of 26, 3, 109, 35, and 117 during his last five appearances in white-ball cricket.

Although, the selectors have counted on him for the Asia Cup 2022 and picked him in the squad of Pakistan. So, it will be a very crucial juncture for the international career of Fakhar Zaman. If he, unfortunately, fails in this tournament as well then the selectors might overlook him for the next international assignments of the national side of Pakistan.
