Having represented the West Indies across all three formats, Russell is best known for his explosive power-hitting in the lower order, impactful cameos, and his handy contributions with the ball, especially in the shortest format of the game.

Here are the three best T20I knocks of Andre Russell

1. 71 vs Australia, 2024

It was during the third match of the series against Australia in Perth in 2024 when West Indies delivered a memorable performance. Batting first, they posted a commanding total of 220/6 in 20 overs.

At one stage, they were struggling at 79/5, but a stunning 139-run partnership off just 67 balls between Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford for the sixth wicket turned the game around. Russell smashed 71 off 29 balls at a strike rate of 244.82, while Rutherford remained unbeaten on 67 off 40, striking at 167.50.

In response, Australia could only manage 183/5 in their 20 overs, as the Windies sealed a 37-run win. Russell was deservedly named Player of the Match.

2. 51 vs Australia, 2021

This crucial knock came in 2021, against Australia once again, this time in Gros Islet. It was the series opener, and the West Indies struggled as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Batters like Lendl Simmons, Shimron Hetmyer, and Nicholas Pooran got starts but couldn’t convert them into substantial scores.

Amid the collapse, Andre Russell played a blistering knock of 51 off 28 balls at a strike rate of 182.14, helping the Windies post a competitive total of 145/6 in 20 overs. In response, Australia were bowled out for 127 in just 16 overs, thanks to Obed McCoy’s impressive spell of 4/26, as the hosts secured an 18-run victory.

3. 43* vs India, 2016

This knock came in the semi-final of the 2016 T20 World Cup against India in Mumbai. Chasing a challenging target of 193, Johnson Charles set the tone with a solid 52 off 36 balls. However, it was the unbeaten partnership between Lendl Simmons (82* off 51) and Andre Russell (43* off 20) that sealed the deal for the West Indies in 19.4 overs.

The duo added unbeaten 80 runs for the fourth wicket, with Russell striking at an impressive rate of 215.00. The win secured West Indies’ place in the final, and they went on to lift the World Cup.
