Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had contrasting fortunes in the Qualifiers of the 20-20 World Cup. While the former breezed past their opponents with relative ease, the latter huffed and puffed to its way in reaching the Super 12. Considering Bangladesh had form and momentum with them, the team was expected to dominate the associate nations. In the end, the Tigers had to suffer a loss against Scotland and then recover by beating the other two teams to enter the Super 12 stage.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have performed well and have momentum with them. The way their bowlers dismantled the Netherlands was heartening to see. Mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana was the standout bowler for the Lankans as he picked up eight wickets. The spinner though won’t take part against Bangladesh owing to a side strain. The management does not want to take any risks whatsoever. Apart from Theekshana, even pace bowlers bowled well and the team overall is looking in good shape.

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s batting has not looked good. The senior batters like Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib-al-Hasan, and Mahamadullah have not converted their starts into something substantial. Shakib has looked brilliant with the ball but runs with the blade are what the management would like to expect. With subcontinent conditions in UAE favouring their style of play more, their spinners like Mahedi Hassan and Shakib would look to exploit the conditions and help restrict the opposition.
