The battle for the second spot in Group B intensifies as New Zealand and Afghanistan lock horns in match 40 of the 20-20 World Cup. On account of their thumping eight-wicket over Scotland on Friday (November 5), India are still in with a chance of making it to the semifinals. However, their fate will depend on the result of this match.

The task for New Zealand is simple, win the match and book a place in the semifinals. After the initial stutter against Pakistan, the Kane Williamson-led side have won three matches on the bounce and have confidence and momentum with them. As usual, several players have stepped in those wins. Prominent amongst those have been Martin Guptill, Trent Boult, Tim Southee. However, the top order has struggled in the last two games. Against Scotland, Guptill bailed them out of trouble, while the team was under pressure versus Namibia as well before James Neesham and Glenn Phillips took them to a competitive score. Against Afghanistan, they will be keen to come good together.

The Mohammad Nabi-led side, on the other hand, have faltered after two convincing wins over Namibia and Scotland. The team showed enough promise and gumption against Pakistan but struggled against India. With just one game to go, Afghanistan would love to end the campaign on a high. They do have the team to surprise New Zealand in this crunch game.

Pitch Conditions

The match is going to be played in Abu Dhabi. The pitch has been slightly on the slower side, with an average score of 140 in the first innings. Chasing teams have enjoyed more success.

Weather Report

On Sunday, (November 7) the forecast is clear with the temperature predicted to be 32 degrees.
