Rishabh Pant

Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is in the headlines of social media after the announcement of the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. Indian cricket fans are continuously questioning the selectors for picking Pant in the squad for the marquee tournament despite his recent poor run of form with the bat.

Pant couldn’t deliver up to the expectations in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022. Apart from the batting, he also failed to drop any remarkable performance with the wicketkeeping as well. There were many options on which selectors could give a think but they still happened to choose Pant above anyone.

So, here we’ll have a look at three players who could've replaced Rishabh Pant in this squad for the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup.

Ishan Kishan

Young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been performing consistently well in the T20 internationals. Ishan has played 19 T20Is since his debut last year in March against England. In these matches, he has scored 543 runs with a fine average of 30.16 having four centuries to his name.

But still, the selectors are continuously overlooking him while it is to select the team for the major international tournaments. A similar happened with him at the time when they were picking a wicketkeeper-batter other than Dinesh Karthik in the World Cup squad.

Sanju Samson

The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from South, Sanju Samson has played only 16 T20Is even after making his debut seven years back in the year 2015. He was in a good touch both with the bat and behind the wickets as well in the last few white-ball assignments for the men in blue.

Fans used to question the Indian management for ignoring Samson to play out of form Rishabh Pant. And now, selectors are once again on the receiving end of criticism from the Indian cricket experts as they kept the Delhi batter above Samson in the team for the World Cup.

Shikhar Dhawan

The man was in form even at the age of 36, consistently performing with the bat in the ODI format. In the last five ODI matches, it was only one time when Shikhar Dhawan played a knock of fewer than 40 runs. In these matches, he scored two half-centuries with scores of 58 and an unbeaten 81 respectively.

He could have been a great choice for the selectors if they could’ve considered a bit of his experience over the newly born stardom of Rishabh Pant. Shikhar Dhawan has all the capabilities to provide excellent strength to the Indian batting lineup.
