The team retained just two players before going into the auction and bought 23 players in the mega auction. They spent just ₹9.5 crore in retaining the two players and were in the auction with the highest purse value (₹110.50 crore).

The two retained players were Shashank Singh (₹5.5 crore) and Prabhsimran Singh (₹4 crore). The team decided not to retain some key players who performed for the team over the years. One such name was Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh, who has been in terrific form in the shortest format of the game.

The team made a U-Turn at the auction table, took out the Right to Match (RTM) card for Arshdeep, and shelled out ₹18 crore for this move. Punjab Kings shelled out ₹26.75 crore for Shreyas Iyer, making him the second-most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League.
