Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh believes Jasprit Bumrah was one of the main reasons why India avoided a 4-0 or 5-0 scoreline in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia won the series 3-1 and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy after a massive gap of 10 years.
Despite India losing the series, Jasprit Bumrah was recognized for his stellar performance as he won the Player of the Series award. Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan Singh had to say this about the national treasure Jasprit Bumrah:
"If Jasprit Bumrah wasn't in this tour, the series would have ended 5-0. Jassi saved India in Perth. After Adelaide, he saved India in the rest of the matches. If he wasn't in the series, India would have lost by either 5-0 or 4-0."
Jasprit Bumrah picked up as many as 32 wickets in the series at an incredible average of 12.64 and had as many as three fifers to his name with best figures of 6/76. He brove Bishan Singh Bedi's record of 31 wickets against Australia in the 1977-78 tour.
Bumrah wasn't a part of India's final bowling innings
Jasprit Bumrah wasn't a part of India's second innings bowling effort in the fifth and final Test in Sydney as he suffered from back spasms.
After bowling 151.2 overs in the series, Bumrah suffered from back spasm in the first innings bowling effort in the Sydney Test and had to go for scans. India's batter faltered once again as they could only set a target of 162 without having Jasprit Bumrah with the ball to have any hopes of winning.
Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj couldn't replicate Bumrah's brilliance as Australia chased down the target with six wickets in hand. They won the Border Gavsakar Trophy 3-1 and won the trophy for the first time since 2014.
