Just 80 days before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 begins in India and Sri Lanka from February 7, the world cricketing body unveiled the groupings for the tournament. 20 teams will be participating in the 20-over ICC event and they have been divided into four groups of five teams each.

Top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Eight stage, where the teams will be divided into two groups and they will play each other once. The top two teams from each group will proceed to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Though Sri Lanka might not feel as fortunate, top-ranked India is arguably in an easy cluster, something Pakistan could also argue.
On paper, India, the top-ranked T20 team, appears to be in one of the weaker groups. Their co-hosts, Sri Lanka, have drawn a much more difficult picture. One poor week early in the competition can eliminate a large team because there are only two spots available for the Super Eight from each group of five teams.
Pakistan is the only other Test country in India's group. The Netherlands, Namibia, and the United States are the remaining teams; none of them are in the top ten.
Bangladesh and a perilous unit from Nepal are stuck with England and the West Indies. The cluster from South Africa that includes Afghanistan and New Zealand increases the amount of groups that will initially feel like elimination rounds.
India begins its campaign against the United States before facing Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. Colombo will host the India-Pakistan match on February 15, while Ahmedabad is set to host the final unless Pakistan qualifies.
The T20 World Cup 2026 will take place in five major Indian cities: Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad. All of Pakistan's games will take place in Sri Lanka, and if the Men in Green make it to the final, the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo will host one of the semifinals.
