Commonwealth Games 2022: Here's a look at complete list and schedule of all sports

Here we’ll have a look at the complete schedule and list of sports which will be played during the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Ardent Sports lovers are eagerly waiting for the start of the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games. This time, it will be the third chance when England will be hosting one of the biggest carnivals of sports competitions. The city of Birmingham will be the center of attraction for sporting in the next couple of weeks. The games will kick off on July 28 (Friday).

Athletes across 72 Commonwealth Nations will compete against each other in this multi-sporting event. 280 events will be played in a total of 20 sports in the quest for the medals between some talented athletes from all over the world.

Apart from this, the Birmingham Games will also be interesting for another reason as cricket is back again after a wait of 24 years since the Kuala Lumpur Games in 1998. The format of cricket in the Birmingham Games will be in women’s T20 format. Other than cricket, a few games are also added including the likes Basketball 3x3, Wheelchair Basketball 3x3, and Para Table Tennis.

So, here we’ll have a look at the complete schedule and list of sports which will be played during the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

Aquatics

Sandwell Aquatics Centre will host two subcategories of aquatics including diving and swimming. The players will compete in diving from August 4 to August 8. Whereas Swimmers will lock horns in the competition from the 29th of July to the 3rd of August.

One of the oldest sports in the competition of the Commonwealth Games, it has been a part of the Games in all previous editions. Athletes and Para Athletes will participate in 58 events. Alexander Stadium of Birmingham will host all the events of the Athletics.

Badminton

The Badminton will be played in six events including men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles followed by mixed doubles and mixed team. Solihull’s National Exhibition Centre has been assigned as the venue of all Badminton events from the 29th of July.

Basketball 3x3 and Wheelchair Basketball 3x3

It will be the first time in the Commonwealth Games that these two games will be included in the games. Smithfield will host the Basketball tournaments from the 29th of July to the 2nd of August.

Beach Volleyball

It is only the second time when Beach Volleyball is a part of the Commonwealth Games. Last time, it was first introduced in the CWG during the Gold Coast Games of 2018. Smithfield Stadium is decided as the venue for Beach Volleyball.

Boxing

One of those events which are core and heart of the Commonwealth Games. There will be total 16 various categories in boxing. This list of categories includes both Men’s and Women’s events. National Exhibition Centre (NEC) is all set to host all the matches of boxing.

Cricket

The game is coming back to the multi-sports festival after 24 years in a completely changed format. This time the format will be T20I cricket and women’s teams of renowned cricket-playing nations will participate in the tournament. Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium will host all matches of the cricket competition. Notably, last time, the competition was played by men’s cricketers in the format of List-A cricket.

Cycling

Mountain biking, track cycling, and road cycling will be the three categories of this sport. Players from different countries will compete in 26 different events in three subcategories. Cannock Chase Forest, Lee Valley Velopark, and Warwick’s Myton Fields have been finalized as the venues for the cycling.

Gymnastics

Birmingham Arena will host both artistic and rhythmic gymnastics. 20 different events will be played in gymnastics from the 29th of July to the 6th of August 2022.

Hockey

It will be the seventh time when hockey will be a part of the Commonwealth Since its inception at the Commonwealth Games in 1998. The University of Birmingham is all set to host all the matches hockey from the 29th of July to the 8th of August.

Judo

Judo was not a part of the Commonwealth Games of 2018 on Gold Coast. Coventry Stadium & Arena’s indoor venue will be the place where players will compete in all judo events.

Lawn Bowls

It is the record 21st time when Lawn Bowls is a part of the Commonwealth Games. It was only excluded once from the 1966 Games. Players from different countries will lock horns in the events of this sport from the 29th of July to the 6th of August. Victoria Park bowling greens in Leamington Spa will host all the events of lawn bowls.

Netball

Netball will be played in Commonwealth Games for the seventh time since its introduction to the games in 1998. The National Exhibition Centre Arena will be the venue for Netball from the 29th of July to the 7th of August.

Para Powerlifting

Para powerlifting was first introduced at the Commonwealth Games of 2002 in Manchester. The game will be played in two categories including lightweight and heavyweight for both men’s and women’s participants. National Exhibition Centre will host all the events of this game.

Rugby Sevens

Coventry Stadium has been finalized to host the rugby sevens of both men and women. The games will be played from the 29th of July to the 31st of July 2022.

Squash

Squash will consist of a total of five events from the 29th of July to the final of the Games. The University of Birmingham is decided as the venue for all the events of squash.

Table Tennis and Para Table Tennis

20 years ago, Table Tennis was played for the first time at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. It will be the sixth time when TT will be a part of the games. National Exhibition Hall 3 will host all events of Table Tennis.

Triathlon and Para Triathlon

Sutton Park and Sutton Coldfield’s courses will host the events of triathlon and para-triathlon. The events of this game will be played from the 29th of July to the 31st of July.

Weightlifting

The events of weightlifting will be played in eight different weight categories. Players will compete in 16 different events in National Exhibition Hall 1 from 30th July to 3rd of August.

Wrestling

Wrestling will be played at the Commonwealth Games for a record 19th time since the debut of sports in games. It will be played in 12 combined categories for both Men and Women. The matches of wrestling will be played at Coventry Arena on the 5th of August and the 6th of August.
