On 11 September 2023, the Pakistan vs India, ‘Super 4’ clash of this ongoing Asia Cup resumed after only 24.1 overs were played on 10 September. Due to rain, the game was called and as the reserve day was on 11 September, hence, the match began from that position only. After being asked to bat first, both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a solid start with an opening partnership of 121 runs.

Rohit scored 56 runs off 49 balls while Shubman Gill scored 58 runs off 52 balls. India were on 147 runs for two wickets while Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were on the crease. Kohli was not out on eight runs while Rahul was not out on 17 runs when the game was called off. So, all eyes were on them when they came out to bat.

Pakistan’s bowlers were clueless against Virat Kohli and KL Rahul

Initially, KL Rahul was not a part of the playing XI. But, in the last moment, he replaced Shreyas Iyer as he sustained back spasms. So, after a long time of being sidelined for the thigh injury that Rahul sustained during the IPL 2023, the stage was set for the batter. However, both players did not disappoint as they notched up centuries. Kohli was seen playing the second fiddle role as Rahul was dominating the Pakistan bowlers.

KL Rahul was the first to reach the 100-run mark in 100 balls while Kohli scored the century off 84 balls. Finally, they put up an unbeaten partnership of 233* runs for the third wicket and India scored 356 runs for two wickets in 50 overs. KL Rahul scored 111* runs off 106 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes while Kohli remained not out on 122* runs off 94 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. Kohli even completed 13000 runs in ODIs and became the fastest batter to do so as he notched up his 77th International ton across all three formats. Only Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab Khan took one wicket each.
