India locked horns with Sri Lanka in their second ‘Super 4’ clash of the ongoing Asia Cup in Colombo. Both teams were looking for a win to qualify for the final. But, it was the Men in Blue who won a low-scoring thriller on a spinning friendly track by 41 runs. Dunith Wellalage starred with both the bat and ball. But, his contribution went in vain as India’s bowlers defended the 214-run target successfully.

Here are three top stories from India vs Sri Lanka, Match 10, Asia Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma crossing 10,000 ODI runs

India’s batters failed miserably against Sri Lanka’s spinners in this match as they got bundled out for just 213 runs in 49.1 overs. But, skipper, Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer as he scored 53 runs off 48 balls.

It was his third consecutive fifty-plus score in this ongoing tournament. But, during that knock, he also reached the 10,000-run mark in ODIs. Rohit became the second-fastest batter to reach the milestone in 241 innings.

Sri Lanka’s spinners taking India’s all 10 wickets

After opting to bat first, India were flying with 80 runs on the board without losing any wicket in 11 overs. But, then, Sri Lanka’s spinners came in and changed the momentum of the game completely.

Dunith Wellalage registered his maiden fifer for just 40 runs in 10 overs while part-timer, Cgarith Asalanak also took four wickets for 18 runs in nine overs. Maheesh Theekshana grabbed one wicket. In a track where balls were seen gripping and coming slow on the bat, India’s batters were seen struggling badly to score runs.

India’s bowlers defending low target

All eyes were Team India’s bowlers when they came out to defend the 214-run target. But, Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets and Mohammed Siraj took one wicket in the first 10 overs. Then, spinners came into action and successfully defended the total.

Sri Lanka got bundled out for 172 runs in 41.3 overs. Hardik Pandya took one wicket while Ravindra Jadeja grabbed two wickets. But, it was Kuldeep Yadav once again after his fifer against Pakistan. He took four wickets for 43 runs in 9.3 overs.
