The biggest T20 carnival in India began on 31 March 2023 in Ahmedabad. The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League kicked off as Gujarat took on Chennai on the opening day. All fans were eagerly waiting to see MS Dhoni in action. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya was looking to begin their journey to defend the title.

However, Gujarat managed a five-wicket win over the Chennai franchise. But, fans went crazy as reports came out that 6 crores people tuned into the digital platform to witness the match at a time. Gujarat made a winning start to the Indian T20 League 2023

As per reports, a total number of 1.6 Crores were watching him bat. During the chase, Shubman Gill scored 63 runs off 36 balls. Along with him, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia came up with cameos to win the match for Gujarat with five wickets in hand. Rashid won the player of the match award for his all-round performance. Even, both teams used the new ‘Impact player’ rule to make required substitutes in the history of the Indian T20 League. Tushar Deshpande replaced Ambati Rayudu while Sai Sudharsan replaced Kane Williamson. With that win, Gujarat managed a winning start while Chennai had a disappointing loss.
