Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar never shies away from speaking his mind. The 56-year-old has once again made a statement that might not go well with several cricket fans. Unimpressed by Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Manjrekar said he is not a fan of Ravichandran Ashwin in white-ball cricket. While Delhi Capitals (DC) restricted SRH to a mere 134/9, Ashwin gave away 22 runs in 2.5 overs without taking a wicket. Manjrekar opined that Delhi Capitals could think of giving Amit Mishra a nod ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin.

“I was a little surprised that they played Ashwin ahead of Amit Mishra. I don’t think Ashwin bowled too well. I am not a big fan of Ashwin in white-ball cricket. So if they can get Mishra in, he becomes that wrist spinner that is always a game-changer in T20 cricket,” Manjrekar wrote in Instagram.

Manjrekar further opined the franchises have been unfair to underrated players like Amit Mishra, adding that despite performing well in every opportunity he gets, he doesn’t get enough credit.

“People like Amit Mishra, low profile players, tend to get a raw deal. Every time Mishra plays, he has got wickets for Delhi and the other franchises he has played before.”

DC are set to take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi today, 25th September. Talking about RR’s team combination, Manjrekar said he wants to see a bit more depth in their spin department. The cricketer-turned-commentator felt there is a place for Tabraiz Shamsi in the Royals’ squad. Shamsi is currently ranked the No 1 T20I bowler.

“The one thing that Rajasthan needs is some help with spin. Against Punjab, you could see that they were trying to get some spinners in, some variation. I really would like to see them fit in Tabraiz Shamsi, a typical T20 bowler, not quite orthodox. He might be able to give them a bit of variety. If the fast bowlers don’t get you wickets, maybe he could.”

Manjrekar further backed Delhi Capitals to beat Rajasthan Royals in the match. “Despite Rajasthan’s win in the last match, Delhi start as favorites. Punjab was the better side for 38 overs in the match. Something bizarre happened in the last two overs for Rajasthan to win," Sanjay Manjrekar signed off.
