“I’ve decided this will be my last season. I’m taking it week by week, not sure if I can last the season, but I want too,” Sania said while addressing the media as quoted by a Times of India journalist.

“Still feel I can play well, go deep into tournaments and all that. But beyond this season I don’t see my body do it either. It’s beat,” she added.

Sania teamed up with Ukrainian Nadiia Kichenok in the women's double category in the Australian Open but failed to go the distance. The pair made an early exit after losing to Kaja Juvan and Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia 6-4, 7-6.

Mirza will not try her luck in the mixed doubles where she will pair up with Rohan Bopanna. Sania has enjoyed a stellar career and has won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, US Open in the doubles category, while she has won the Australian Open and US Open in mixed doubles as well.

Sania is an icon of Indian Tennis and inspired many women to take up the sport. She had a career that lasted for nearly two decades. She became the highest-ranked Tennis player from India when she reached a career ranking of 27 in 2007.
