However, there have been many one-sided affairs as well, where teams have blown away their opposition and registered a massive win.

Such games are rarely remembered by the losing side, but for the winning team, they are one of the most memorable matches of their  World Cup journey. Several teams have suffered a hammering loss at the grand stage of the World Cup. On that note, let’s take a look at the top five occasions when teams won by 10 wickets in the 20-20 World Cup.

1. Australia vs Sri Lanka, 2007 20-20 World Cup, Match 22th

Having won the toss and elected to field first, Australia bundled out Sri Lanka for just 101. Stuart Clark was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, who scalped four wickets for 20 runs in four overs. In reply to Sri Lanka’s low total, the famed Australian opening duo of Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist showed no mercy on their bowling attack and chased down the target in just 10.2 overs without losing any wickets. Gilchrist remained unbeaten on 58 off 38 balls and Hayden scored 31 off 25 not out.

After winning the toss, South Africa captain AB De Villiers invited Zimbabwe to bat first. The indomitable bowling attack of the Proteas gave no chance whatsoever to the Zimbabwe batters as they could only manage to reach 93/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Jacques Kallis was the chief destroyer of Zimbabwe, sending four batters back to the pavilion and giving away just 15 runs in 4 overs.

In reply to Zimbabwe’s total South African openers, Richard Levi and Hashim Amla played smartly and found occasional boundaries. They reached the target in 12.4 overs with Levi scoring a half-century off 44 balls.

3. Oman vs Papua New Guinea, 2021 20-20 World Cup, Match 1

Papua New Guinea batted first and scored 129/9 in their 20 overs on the back of a brilliant half-century from their captain Assad Vala. Captain Zeeshan Maqsood picked up 4 wickets for 20 runs in four overs for Oman.

Oman blew away Papua New Guinea bowlers as their opener Jatinder Singh scored a blistering 73 off 42 balls and helped his team chase down the target in just 13.4 overs.

4. India vs Pakistan, 2021 20-20 World Cup, Match 16

Pakistan Captain Babar Azam won the toss and put the star-studded Indian batting to the test against their hostile pace attack. The left-arm seamer Shaheen Afridi blew away the Indian top order picking up the prized scalps of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. India could only manage to reach 151/7 in their allotted 20 overs as captain Virat Kohli scored 57 off 49 balls.

Pakistan openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam came out to bat determined to win their first-ever match against India in World Cups. The duo took their time early on and attacked the Indian bowlers once they had their eyes set in. As a result, Pakistan chased down the target in 17.5 overs with Rizwan unbeaten on 79 off 55 balls and Babar unbeaten on 68 off 52 balls.

5. India vs England, 2022 20-20 World Cup, 2nd Semi-Final

England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to put India in to bat in the all-important clash. India could manage to reach 168/6 in their allotted 20 overs, with Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli scoring half-centuries.

In reply, England's opening duo of Jos Buttler and Alex Hales gave no chance to the Indian bowlers as they ripped them apart right from the word go. England chased down the target with four overs to spare without losing any wickets. The partnership is also the highest in the history of the 20-20 World Cup for any wicket.
