The game of Cricket is evolving over time and fans consider the T20I format to be the most entertaining one of all, although one could argue that Test cricket might come to compete as an entertaining one as well. 2022 was a cracker of a year in terms of the shortest format of the game where batters like Glenn Phillips, Cameron Green and David Warner stood up to the occasion as there was an increase in the number of T20I games played on account of the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022

Many batters and bowlers shined in the format over the course of 12 months, given that the multinational tournament was the pinnacle of all of the games played this year. We decided to handpick five batters who have the most number of runs in the format in the year and New Zealand’s star Phillips stands fifth on the list.

Here are the five batters with the most T20I runs in 2022 starting with Glenn Phillips:

5) Glenn Phillips - 716 runs

New Zealand found a star in Phillips and the batter is proving to be one of the most threatening batters of the current generation. With the ability to hit the ball all around the park, the Kiwi batter impressed everyone and outclassed in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022 as well.

As far as his records in 2022 are concerned, the batter has gathered 716 runs at an average of around 44 and a strike rate of over 150. Much to the surprise of the fans, the talismanic batter has scored 6 fifties and 1 hundred to his name in the format this year.

4) Sikandar Raza/Babar Azam - 735 runs

Sikandar Raza, the Zimbabwean star, proved his might in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 and gave his all to ensure that his team finished on a high. Having played 24 T20Is so far this year, Razas stands fourth in the list alongside Pakistan skipper Babar Azam with 735 runs at an average of 35.

Babar, on the other hand, scored runs with the bat but also faced criticism for failing to score them all in quick succession as many claimed that his strike rate was a concern. However, that did not stop him from scoring runs as he gathered as many runs as Raza and at an average of 31.

3) Virat Kohli - 781 runs

Virat Kohli is one of the least expected batters to make a cut to the list, given the form that he was in earlier this year. It was only after the break that he took prior to the Asia Cup 2022 in September, he managed to make a roaring comeback in the T20I format.

Eventually, Kohli has gathered 781 runs in the shortest format of the game at an average of 55.78 and at a strike rate of 138.23. Much to the delight of the Indian fans who least expected, the talented batter scored his first-ever T20I century in the continental tournament against Afghanistan, thereby eventually ending his two-year-long century drought.

2) Mohammad Rizwan - 996 runs

Mohammad Rizwan, the Paksitani wicketkeeper, opened the innings for the Men in Green in most of the games and eventually managed to score 996 runs in the shortest format of the game. However, his strike rate remained a concern right throughout the year and many opined that it hurt Pakistan’s golden run in the year.

However, Rizwan was undefeatable in the format and managed to score more runs than anyone could expect. The batter has scored at an average of 45 and with a strike rate of around 122, bagging 10 half-centuries to his name along the course.

1) Suryakumar Yadav - 1164 runs

Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian batter, is known for his ability to hit all around the ground and for his unorthodox shots as well. Eventually, Suryakumar was at the peak of his form and crossed the 1000-run landmark in the format in the year.

Over the course, the right-handed batter has gathered 2 centuries and 9 half centuries to his name with an average of 46 and a whopping strike rate of 187.43. It remains to be seen if he would carry on with the form in the approaching year as well, although one can be assured that he might grow to be one of the best batters for India.
