Kenya skipper Victor Wanyama has put a full stop to his 14-year international football career. He has decided to retire from the international arena but will continue to play club cricket. While confirming the news, he admitted that it was a very tough decision for him to take.

Victor made his debut 14 years ago and was part of some of the memorable moments of Kenya's football. He felt that this is the perfect time to hand over the baton to the next generation of players who are exciting and doing well.

"From making my debut against Nigeria to captaining the team at the African Cup of National Finals in Egypt -- these past 14 years have gone beyond what I ever thought possible. The time has come to hand over the team to the next generation so that they too can make their mark and help our country reach even greater heights," Victor wrote in a statement on his Twitter account.

The decision from Victor comes after he was overlooked for the World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Uganda earlier this month. He was dropped from the team and the captaincy was handed over to the striker Michael Olunga.

"Growing up, it was always my dream to get the chance to represent my country. With a great deal of pride, I can say that I have been fortunate to live my dream. We have shared great moments together, and I am proud to have been your captain and leader.

"But all good things must come to an end, and after long consideration, I have made the really difficult consideration to retire from international football," Victor further said. He is currently playing for Major League Soccer Club Montreal.
