Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner announced that one of their newborn twins, who was a son, passed away, on Monday.

In what came as shocking news, Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez’s son passed away on Monday. In October last year, the duo had announced that they were expecting twins. And, in December, they also stated that the duo were expecting a boy and a girl. However, the couple announced on Monday that one of their newborn twins, who was a boy, died. While his partner has given birth to a girl, the son sadly passed away.

"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel," said Ronaldo in a statement.

"Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.”

"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."

Manchester United showed their support for their club player on Twitter. "Your pain is our pain, @Cristiano Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time." The club wrote on their Twitter handle.

English Premier League also tweeted their support for the legendary footballer and his family. "The thoughts and condolences of everyone at the Premier League are with you and your family, Cristiano." The Tweet read.

Cristiano Ronaldo is regarded as one of the greatest players ever to play the game of Football. The Portuguese footballer currently plays as a forward for Premier League club Manchester United. Besides, he is the captain of the Portugal national football team.
