On 14 May 2023, the stage was set at Chepauk Stadium, Chennai for the 61st match of the ongoing IPL. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing IPL. In the reverse fixture at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, CSK defeated KKR. So, CSK were looking to double over KKR.

While KKR were looking for a win to stay alive in the tournament. Speaking of the match, MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. Fans were expecting a high-scoring game but the pitch turned out to be a tricky one. KKR spinners were on a roll as Varun Chakravarthy took the first two wickets.

KKR defeated CSK by six wickets 

Gaikwad scored 17 runs off 13 balls, including two fours. Then, Conway scored 30 runs off 28 balls, including three fours. Then, Rahane scored 16 runs off 11 balls, including one four and one six. After that, Shivam Dube played a sensible knock and remained not out on 48* runs off 34 balls, including one four and three sixes. Ravindra Jadeja scored 20 runs off 24 balls, including one six. Finally, CSK scored 144 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. For KKR, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each. Along with them, both Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur took one wicket each.

Then, for the chase, KKR batters had a horrible start as they scored 46 runs for three wickets. In the first six overs. Deepak Chahar took all three wickets for 27 runs in his first three overs. Jason Roy scored 12 runs off 15 balls while Venkatesh Iyer scored nine runs off four balls. However, after that skipper Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh looked to steady the ship. Both of them put up a partnership of 99 runs for the fourth wicket. Rinku scored 54 runs off 43 balls, including four fours and three sixes. Rana remained not out on 57* runs off 44 balls and KKR chased down the target in 18.3 overs.
