On 19 February 2023, the Indian Cricket Board announced the squads for the remaining two Tests and the upcoming ODI series against Australia. However, Jasprit Bumrah again missed out on any squads. He is currently nursing the back injury that prevented him from playing the 20-20 World Cup 2022 for the Men in Blue.

Bumrah last played an international match in September 2022. Hence, he has been out of any competitive cricket over the last five months. Reports also suggested that the pacer might have played two practice games at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) over the last 10 days. But, the NCA managers have not issued an all-clear for him to get selected for team India.

Jasprit Bumrah will look to do well in the upcoming Indian T20 League for the Mumbai franchise

Hence, reports have confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will be in action again directly in the Indian T20 League 2023 for the Mumbai franchise. The Indian team management will keep a close eye on his workload management in that tournament. After that tournament, India might play the WTC final and the 50-over World Cup is also there. So, a fully-fit Bumrah will be crucial for Rohit Sharma and his men. Speaking about Bumrah, he has played 162 matches so far for India across all three formats. In those matches, he has taken 319 wickets, at an economy of 3.78. Even, for the Mumbai franchise, he has been an instrumental part for several years.

For Mumbai, he has played 120 matches so far where Bumrah has taken 145 wickets, at an economy of 7.39. After winning the home ODI series against the Kiwis, Rohit Sharma said that they don't want to take any risk with him. He said: "About Bumrah, I'm not too sure at the moment, of course for the first two Test matches he's not going to be available. I'm expecting that; not expecting but hoping he plays the next two Test matches but again we don't want to take any risk with him. The back injuries are always critical. We have got lot of cricket coming up after that as well, we will see, and we will monitor. We are in constant touch with doctors and physios at NCA and we are constantly hearing from them."
