Sarfaraz Ahmed made headlines when he finally made a comeback in the Pakistan team on 26 December 2022. Pakistan took on New Zealand in Karachi in that two-match series opener. Babar Azam surprised everyone at the toss when he said that Mohammad Rizwan has been dropped.

Instead of him, Sarfaraz Ahmed made a comeback to the playing XI after a gap of nearly four years. Before that, he last played a Test match for his country in January 2019 against the Proteas in Johannesburg. In that comeback match, Sarfaraz scored 86 runs in the first innings while managing 53 runs in the second innings.

Then, in the second match also, he continued his good form with the bat. In that clash, Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 78 runs in the first innings while managing 118 runs in the second innings. Hence, he won the player of the match award. Sarfaraz Ahmed also won the player of the series award for scoring 335 runs in four innings. Meanwhile, on 20 January 2023, Pakistan cricketer, Shan Masood got married to his fiancee, Nische Khan in an intimate ceremony in Peshawar. During that event, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ song was played and many cricketers joined. Even, Sarfaraz Ahmed was present there. But, from that event, a video went viral where Sarfaraz Ahmed was seen singing a famous song.

He was singing the popular Bollywood song 'Mubarak Ho Tumko' while giving his blessings to Masood. Seeing his singing skills, fans could not keep calm and shared their views on social media platforms. Some also compared him with the current Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath based on the look. Some fans also suggested that he can become a singer after taking retirement from cricket. Speaking about his return, Sarfaraz said: "I was part of the team for four years and despite not getting chances here I was continuing to play well elsewhere. Wanted an opportunity from Allah and got it. I was very tense in the first Test, but the boys and captain gave me confidence."
