'Ye Pujara ko kaun MOTS diya' - Furious fans burst over broadcasters for ignoring Shreyas Iyer for Player of the series award

India won the two-match Test series against Bangladesh with a clean sweep margin of 2-0 following a thrilling win in the last match at Mirpur. Thanks to the brilliant 71-run partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer, the visitors chased down a total of 145 runs in the first session of the fourth day of the match.

Although the Indian fans didn’t seem happy with the decision of broadcasters to award Cheteshwar Pujara the ‘player of the series' award over Shreyas Iyer. Notably, Shreyas Iyer had a better batting average than Pujara throughout the series. But still, the broadcasters preferred the senior batter Pujara for ‘player of the series’ in comparison to the former.

This decision didn’t go down well with a section of the Indian cricket fans and they took to Twitter for lashing out at the broadcasters and recalled the contributions of Iyer in crucial situations.

Speaking of the stats of both Pujara and Iyer, the former ended as a leading run-scorer in the series as he scored 222 runs in four innings of the two matches with an average of 74.00. The 34-year-old also scored a century and a half-century.

Whereas Shreyas Iyer had a far better average than Pujara as he scored 202 runs in three innings of two matches with one unbeaten knock. Iyer ended up the series with two half-centuries and an average of 101.00.

Coming back to the Indian team’s condition in the World Test Championship 2023 points table, they have now reached the second spot in the table. Now, the Indian team is only behind Australia who are on the top with a PCT of 120 to their name.

Currently, Australia is in action against South Africa in the second of the three-match Test series. The result of this series will also decide the fortune of India in contention for the final of the World Test Championship 2023.
