Watch: Kevin Pietersen explodes as he guides World Giants to victory

Kevin Pietersen, the World Giants captain guided his team to win with a special performance. While chasing 150, the skipper played shots all across the park to score a match-winning knock of 86 off 38 balls. World Giants lost their first wicket on 28 within the powerplay, but that did not stop them. Pietersen and Kevin O'Brien stitched a good partnership for the 2nd wicket, with both dealing in boundaries. It was the 6th over, however, that completely shifted the momentum of the game.

Pietersen struck 9 consecutive balls over or to the boundary in the 6th and 7th over. Facing Jayasuriya in the 6th over, Pietersen hit three sixes and three fours to make it a 30-run over. O'Brien gave the strike back to the skipper on the first ball of the next over from Dilhara Fernando. He then hit two more boundaries and a six, plus another boundary on a no-ball.

Kevin Pietersen scored 86 off 38 balls. He played well to get to this total until he was trapped by the Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan. The score by then was 128-2 in 10.4 overs and the damage was done by then.

It was Kevin O'Brien who then took the charge to win the match. He went on to score 31 runs in 24 balls. He remained not out at the end of his innings and helped chase down the target in just 13 overs. Kevin Pietersen was the legend of the match for his heroic performance in the chase.
