The Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne had a tough time during the match between Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. The 26-year-old sustained a scary injury and lost his four teeth. Subsequently, he was rushed to the hospital for further treatment and medical assistance.

It all happened when Galle’s number four batter Nuwanidu Fernando was facing Carlos Braithwaite and the former lofted the shot in the air. Chamika Karunaratane was fielding inside the circle and went into an attempt to catch the ball. Although Karunaratne took the catch successfully the ball hit his mouth and he ended up losing his four teeth.

Later on, the medical team admitted the cricketer to a hospital in Galle and the Falcons management stated that he is fine and will be available for the next stage of the tournament.

Speaking of the match between Galle Gladiators and Kandy Falcons, the Gladiators’ skipper Kusal Mendis won the toss and decided to bat first. On the back of Carlos Brathwaite’s outstanding bowling performance, the Kandy Falcons managed to restrict Gladiators only on the score of 121 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Movin Subhasingha and star Pakistan all-rounder, Imad Wasim played the crucial knocks of 40 and 34 runs respectively to rescue their team.

While chasing the target, Kandy Falcons easily crossed the line in 15 overs for the loss of five wickets, thanks to Kamindu Mendis’ brilliant knock of 44 runs off 34 balls with four boundaries and two sixes to his name.

Other than Mendis, openers, Pathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher also contributed with knocks of 22 and 20 runs respectively.

Eventually, Kandy Falcons easily won the match by five wickets and Carlos Braithwaite won the ‘player of the match award for his brilliant match-winning bowling performance.
