Indian skipper Virat Kohli announced that he'll step down as India T20I skipper after the T20 World Cup. Kohli revealed that leading India in all three formats is taking a toll on him and he wants to let go one format so that he can focus more on his batting. While many experts welcomed Kohli's move, others felt he should have given up ODI captaincy as well.

If a report in The Telegraph is anything to go by, then Kohli fears that he might lose out on his brand value if he let go the leadership in both T20I and 50 over games.

However, the brand chief dismissed those claims and said Kohli's brand value won’t be hampered if he steps down from ODI captaincy as well. “Sachin Tendulkar’s endorsements never went down even when he gave up captaincy. The same applies for Virat Kohli. If he gives up ODI captaincy too, it might make a small dent but nothing dramatic,” Navroze D Dhondy, founder and managing director of Creatigies Communications, said.

The BCCI is yet to finalise Kohli's successor but Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma is the prime contender to take over. Meanwhile, there were reports that Virat Kohli wants ODI and T20I deputyship to be given to KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Kohli believes that Rohit Sharma, 34, is too old to stay as India vice-captain and the team needs to find new leaders in the team. Virat Kohli is yet to win an ICC trophy but with a quality squad at disposal and favourable conditions of the UAE, the Indian skipper can hope of ending his title drought in the upcoming event.
