'Too much money to butcher Indian names' - Fans call out Indian Cricket Board for picking British auctioneer Hugh Edmeades over Charu Sharma

The mini-auction for the 16^th edition of the Indian T20 League concluded in Kochi yesterday Friday. Notably, this auction ended up as one of the most expensive auctions in the history of the tournament since its inception 14 years back in 2008.  Star England all-rounders Sam Curran and Ben Stokes were the highlights of the auction as they were sold out in the whopping amounts of 18.50 and 16.25 crores respectively.

But apart from the auction, the thing that raised the eyebrows of the Indian cricket fans was the presence of British Auctioneer Hugh Edmeades for another time. Notably, Edmeades is the same auctioneer who had a sudden fall in the middle of the auction. Subsequently, the renowned Indian broadcaster Charu Sharma came up on very short notice from Indian cricket to save the two-day mega auction.

The fans went on to express their opinions on the micro-blogging site, Twitter and they also lashed out at the Indian cricket Board for ignoring Sharma for the British auctioneer. They were also displeased with the way Edmeades pronounced the names of the Indian cricketers.

India-based sports journalist Joy Bhattacharjya was also on the list of the individuals who called out the Indian Cricket Board for an unnecessary obsession with the British auctioneer.

Coming back to the Indian T20 League, the next season will be once again in the old format of matches at both home and away grounds. Apart from that, it will also be the final edition for the former legendary Indian skipper MS Dhoni. He will be leading the three-time champions Chennai.
