The veteran is likely to miss the four-day warm-up game against Leicester which would have given him enough match practice. Besides, he is doubtful for the fifth Test as well. Ravindra Jadeja is a batting all-rounder who can bowl in the English conditions. He can be selected in his absence in the playing XI.

Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will discuss three names that can replace the Ravichandran Ashwin in the squad.

  1. Saurabh Kumar

The left-arm spinner from Uttar Pradesh is one of the most experienced players in the Indian First Class setup. He has played 49 red-ball games and has 201 wickets to his name, averaging 24.87 and striking at 54.9, including 16 five-wicket hauls.

Also, not to forget, the 29-year-old was included in the Indian squad for Two Tests against Sri Lanka at home early this year. The Bhagpat-born player is also a decent batter in the lower order with 1657 runs to his name, including two hundreds. He could be a good option for the team looking for decent tail enders who can bat well.

2. Jayant Yadav

Yadav has played six Tests for India in his Test cricket career. Last November, he made a comeback in the national team after making his debut in 2016. Talking about his numbers for India, the right-arm off-spinner has 16 wickets to his name.

In First Class cricket, he has 173 wickets to his name. Not to forget, he is no mug with the bat either. The right-hander has one Test hundred, that too against England in 2016 and has three in domestic cricket.

3. Shahbaz Nadeem

The Jharkhand player has played two Tests but has immense First Class experience. For his state, he has played 123 red-ball games and has 472 scalps to his name at an average of 28.71, including 22 five-wicket hauls.'

He doesn't have great numbers with the bat but has the highest score of 177 runs to his name. Out of three contenders, he would be last option the selectors would look at.
