Three individuals with fake accounts book for alleged match-fixing in Indian T20 League 2022; CBI doubts involvement from Pakistan

In what has come as a big development, the Central Bureau of Investigation has accused three individuals for alleged match-fixing in the ongoing Indian T20 League. As per reports, the individuals who are booked by CBI are Dileep Kumar, based in Rohini, Gurram Vasu, and Gurram Satish from Hyderabad.

Reports also suggest that the network which is responsible was operational since 2013. It has cheated the public by wrongly inducing them for betting. The action was taken after the agency received information that, “a network of individuals involved in cricket betting are influencing the outcome of Indian Premier League matches based on inputs received from Pakistan.”

As per the FIR, it has been revealed that the accused made mule accounts. They opened it submitting fakes names. “These bank accounts have been opened by submitting forged details such as multiple dates of birth and without due diligence done by the bank officials”. The FIR further mentioned that a part of the money received through match-fixing is being shared with allies in foreign countries through hawala transactions.”

“A part of the money received from the general public in India on account of such betting activities is also being shared with their associates based in foreign countries using hawala transactions,” the FIR has alleged.

Meanwhile, the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League 2022 is currently underway. Two new entrants, Gujarat and Lucknow have already qualified for the playoffs. Gujarat are sitting at the top of the points table with 12 wins in 9 matches. Lucknow are at second with 8 wins in 12 matches.

Two of the most successful teams in the history of the competition, Mumbai and Chennai have occupied the bottom two positions and are already knocked out of the race for the playoffs. Two more teams are left to seal their playoff spot and five teams are currently in the hunt for that.
